Security Officer Run Down, Fleeing Suspect Arrested by; Rick McCann

HIALEAH, Fla. -- Hialeah police are searching for the driver who hit and killed a security guard early Friday morning.

Police identified the driver as Guillermo Gonzalez. Officers said he was fleeing the scene of a robbery when he struck a security guard patrolling outside a Hialeah paper company.

Gonzalez then lost control of his SUV, flipping over into the front yard of a home on Southeast Second Place. The car hit a utility pole, causing it to fall on the house. No one inside was injured.
"This was a very violent crash," said Frank Gonzalez of the Hialeah Police Department. "The individual took down an aluminum telephone pole, hit a wall, and flipped the vehicle over."
Police said Gonzalez fled the scene on foot. Officers have been searching for him since 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Before the crash, police said, Gonzalez broke into Amy Supermarket in Hialeah. The storeowner told NBC that Gonzalez broke into several electronic gaming machines, stole cigarettes and a phone card.
Police have not released the name of the man who was killed. Those who knew him described him as a nice man who loved his job.

Note: The suspect has been captured and arrested for murder on Thursday October 18, 2007 and the suspect has given police a full confession in the incident.
