Mall Guard Arrested For Chasing Bike Down by; Rick McCann

WAYNE NJ Oct. 18, 2007-- A mall security guard is charged with aggravated assault after allegedly trying to run down a motorcyclist with his truck, police said Tuesday.
Vincent Jean, 41, of Irvington, remained in the Passaic County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $25,000 bail as a result of an incident Saturday afternoon, said Capt. Paul Ireland.

According to police, the motorcyclist, who was sitting on his bike in the Costco parking lot talking on his cellphone, saw Jean circling him. Jean eventually approached and told him to buy something or get out of the area. The Costco is near Willowbrook Mall.
As the motorcyclist was leaving, he made an obscene gesture at Jean, and that prompted the guard to accelerate his vehicle and drive toward the motorcyclist, Ireland said.
Anticipating being struck by the truck, the biker tried to shield himself and his bike between two parked cars, Ireland said. But Jean's truck hit the left side of his bike and pushed him into another vehicle, damaging the bike and a car. Jean then backed up and left the scene.
Jean, who works for security company Securitas, returned shortly after the incident occurred and was arrested, Ireland said.
"They are there to deter thefts and assaults," Ireland said of mall security. "They can't go running over people."
The 42-year-old motorcyclist, whose name was not released by police, was treated for leg injuries.
Ireland added, "They are there to watch, observe and prevent. If something should happen they should call us."
